Through Sumou Al-Qanoon Law Firm and Legal Consultations, we seek to provide legal services to national and foreign companies operating in Iraq, regardless of their field of activity (maritime, oil, contracting, etc.), ensuring that our clients› activities comply with applicable Iraqi laws. THE MANAGING DIRECTOR
He holds a Bachelor›s degree in Law from the University of Baghdad in 1989. He has
over 30 years of experience in legal circles, and has held several positions at the General
Company for Iraqi Ports, including:
• Director of the Legal Department from 2011 until 2020 .2015, on several terms.
• Member of the company›s board of directors from 2011 to 2020.
• Deputy Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Ports from 2019 to 2020.
• Representative of Iraq to the International Labor Organization in Geneva and a
participant in drafting the amendment to the Convention on the Rights of Small-
Scale Fishers.
• Representative of Iraq to the International Maritime Organization/Legal Committee
at its permanent headquarters in London.
• Head of the Iraqi delegation participating in the UNECE PPP meetings (Public-Private
Partnership in Port Management) in 2020 in Amman, Jordan.
• Participated in the 2018 JAICA Contract Preparation and Drafting Course in Amman,
Jordan.
• Several workshops on drafting international contracts in the United Arab Emirates
and Dubai.
